More Preseason Accolades

Fort Thomas Highlands continues to receive a great deal of preseason attention at the national level. EPSN Rise has ranked Highlands 34th in the nation and 6th in the midwest region in its 2009 preseason prep football rankings. No Kentucky team is ranked higher than Highlands in the ESPN Rise rankings list. This goes along with the program's national ranking (76th) by Rivals High.

Highlands Ranked by Rivals

Rivals High has ranked Fort Thomas Highlands 76th nationally in its 2009 Rivals High 100 Countdown. The program is coming off a 14-1 record in 2008, and is the defending Kentucky Class 5A state champion.

Coach Mueller Wins Award

Coach Dale Mueller was recently named the recipient of the Paul Brown Excellence in Coaching Award for the 2008 football season. This award is given by the Cincinnati Bengals, and is bestowed annually to the Greater Cincinnati area's top prep football coach. Mr. Mueller is the eighth recipient of this prestigious honor, and the first Kentucky coach to win the award. As a result of winning this award, the Highlands High School athletic department will receive a $5000 donation from the Bengals.

Highlands an Early Favorite in The Cats' Pause

The Cats' Pause 2009 Kentucky Football Yearbook has selected Fort Thomas Highlands as the preseason favorite to win Kentucky Class 5A, District 5 this year. Also, WR/RB/DB Austin Collinsworth is listed as the district's preseason player of the year. The following Bluebirds have also been mentioned as district players to watch: WR Nick Buten, OL Tyler Grubbs, LB/TE Brandon Roller and OL Hunter Schlosser. In addition, this magazine's Mr. Kentucky Football preview has listed Austin Collinsworth first in its article, which names the state's early contenders for this prestigious honor.

Highlands Receives Early Recognition from PrepNation

PrepNation has recently released a list of preseason state rankings, and Class 5A Fort Thomas Highlands is ranked second in the entire state of Kentucky, behind Class 6A Louisville Saint Xavier and ahead of Class 6A Louisville Trinity (who is ranked third).
